The Conception Vessel originates in the uterus in females and the lower abdomen in males, emerging at REN1 (Huiyin) in the perineum. It ascends along the midline of the abdomen and chest, passing through the navel and sternum. It continues upwards along the throat and chin, terminating at REN24 (Chengjiang) below the lower lip. An internal branch connects with the Du Mai at the mouth and another ascends to the eyes.
The Ren Mai governs all Yin channels of the body, regulating menstruation, pregnancy, and childbirth, thus being crucial for female reproductive health. It also influences the Uterus, Kidneys, and Spleen, nourishing Yin and Essence, and supporting the body's fundamental Yin. It plays a significant role in the abdominal and thoracic cavities, impacting digestion, respiration, and the function of internal organs.
Disorders of the Conception Vessel often manifest as gynecological issues such as irregular menstruation, infertility, leucorrhea, and difficult labor. Other symptoms include hernia, abdominal masses, pain in the epigastrium and lower abdomen, and urinary problems. Mental-emotional disturbances like depression or anxiety can also arise due to its connection with Yin and Essence.
