REN17 Chest Center

REN17 (Shanzhong, “Chest Center”) is the Front-Mu of Pericardium point of the Conception Vessel Meridian. REN17 is located on the anterior midline of the chest, at the level of the fourth intercostal space, midway between the nipples. It regulates Qi, unbinds the chest, benefits the breasts and lactation.

Needling

Transverse insertion superiorly or inferiorly 0.3-0.5 cun. Caution for pneumothorax.

⚠ Pneumothorax risk: oblique/shallow only, never deep perpendicular over the chest wall.

REN17 is the Front-Mu point of the Pericardium and the Hui-Meeting point of Qi, making it the most influential point for regulating Qi in the chest and upper body. It is indispensable for unbinding the chest, alleviating cough, asthma, and chest pain, and treating emotional disorders like anxiety and depression by moving stagnant Qi. It also has a specific action on the breasts, benefiting lactation and treating mastitis. It is often paired with PC6 for chest pain or LU7 for asthma and cough.
