Channel pathway

The Yang Linking Vessel originates on the lateral aspect of the leg, ascending along the lateral malleolus and leg to the hip. It continues up the lateral aspect of the trunk, passing through the axilla and shoulder. From there, it ascends the neck and posterior aspect of the head, meeting with various Yang channels, before terminating on the forehead.

Physiology & functions

This vessel is responsible for linking all the Yang channels of the body, coordinating their Qi and blood. It governs the exterior and helps to defend the body against external pathogens. The Yangwei Mai also plays a role in regulating the ascending and descending of Yang Qi.

When the channel is disordered

Disorders of the Yang Linking Vessel often manifest as alternating chills and fever, pain in the lateral costal region, and a general feeling of weakness or aching throughout the body. Mental-emotional symptoms like anxiety or a feeling of being overwhelmed can also be present, reflecting its connection to the Yang Qi of the head.
